Discovering Cybele: Embracing Wild Freedom

What would it be like to be you…uninhibited, untamed and completely free, yet still fully grounded and aligned with your divine nature?

This week we visited Mount Tamalpais in Marin County. We drive over the Golden Gate Bridge and visited all of our old haunts in and around Larkspur. Then we walked the Huckleberry trail to view Mt Tam.

She is majestic! She used to be a Native American women’s healing site and the energy all around is simply divine. there is an abundance of wildlife all around such as deer, squirrels, and hunting birds like the turkey vulture. It’s a wild and free and expansive area. The next day we visited Muir Woods and I said hello to many old tree friends who seem to literally pop out to say hi. It’s a magical, mystical woods.

Cybele first came to me many years ago. I had a bidion of myself flying up to a red carpet beside two flying lions. I lay down and was rolled up. I stayed in there for a bit and Then I was unrolled and flew back to my body beside the two lions. I heard ‘the mouth of God’ and this bision has stuck with me ever since. The next week I was wandering a metaphysical store and came upon a statue of Cybele sitting in a throne with her two lions. I was transfixed.

How I experience Cybele:

Cybele: The Divine Mother of Wild Nature

Listen!
A distant sound, advancing—a frequency, a quickening pulse.
The beat of drums echoes from the depths of the cosmic core,
Carried by the roar of lions.
She awaits.
She roars. She reigns.
Untamed and eternal, she is the pulse of wild nature,
The fire of the mountain’s heart.

This painting of Cybele, Divine Mother of the Gods, captures her essence: regal yet wild, grounded yet free. She embodies the dichotomy of existence—the capacity to hold boundless freedom while remaining rooted in unwavering strength.

Seated on her throne, Cybele is portrayed as the Mountain Goddess, solid and immovable. Her posture is commanding, with her back straight, shoulders exposed, and her head slightly tilted in a display of quiet confidence. Her crimson robe flows like molten fire, symbolizing vitality and the fierce creative force of life, while cool blue tones evoke wisdom and serenity. Her crown reflects her sovereignty over both the material and divine realms, a reminder of her timeless authority.

At her sides are two lions, their golden manes ablaze with the wild energy of the untamed. They represent both her majestic power and the sacred wildness that resides within all of us. The lions roar not just for Cybele’s dominion but for our own forgotten wilderness—urging us to reconnect with our true, primal nature. Their presence bridges the energies of freedom and mastery, reminding us that wildness and sovereignty coexist.

In her hands, Cybele holds a frame drum, an ancient symbol of the heartbeat of creation. The drum’s steady pulse mirrors the rhythm of life itself—the first sound we ever hear in the womb, the cosmic beat that connects us to the earth and stars. Its sound resonates with the call to dance, to celebrate life’s rhythms, and to express one’s individuality fully. Cybele invites us to march to the beat of our own drum while aligning with the grander dance of nature and the cosmos.

The Call of Cybele

Through this painting, Cybele calls us to awaken to our true nature. Her energy speaks of harmony with the primal rhythms of existence and the cultivation of balance within ourselves.

She reminds us: We are nature. Not apart from it, not merely observers of it—but part of its wild, instinctual, and harmonious essence. Just as flowers bloom without striving and rivers flow without resistance, we, too, can find our natural state by letting go of what is not truly us. This is the path of surrender, of returning to the organic divinity within.

And yet, Cybele’s energy also asks us to cultivate ourselves—to nurture the seeds of our inner flowering. Her presence inspires us to balance letting go with self-mastery, to merge the instinctual with the divine. This is the duality she embodies: limitless freedom rooted in the strength and stability of the mountain.

Her lions roar with the untamed energy of the wild, yet her throne is solid rock, grounded and unshakable. She represents transformation—not by conquering or controlling, but by shedding all that is false and rising as our authentic, untamed selves.

Resonance with the Divine Pulse

The drumbeat in Cybele’s hands echoes another truth: the rhythm of life is both universal and deeply personal. It calls us to stay in tune with the cosmic flow while also honoring the beat of our own hearts. To be “in rhythm” is to find alignment with the energy of Gaia, the cosmos, and our inner truth.

When you feel out of sync—pushing too hard, resisting the flow—her energy invites you to pause, to listen, and to recover. Like the steady pulse of the drum, your heart is your guide, always whispering when you are in or out of rhythm. Cybele’s drum reminds us that by tuning in, we find harmony not only with the world around us but with ourselves.

A Mirror of Your Inner Divinity

This painting is not just an image of Cybele—it is a mirror, a portal, and a bridge to her stream of consciousness. By connecting with her energy, we are called to embody her qualities within ourselves:

  • To be wild and free, unencumbered by external expectations.
  • To stay grounded in our divine knowing, as unshakable as the mountain.
  • To trust the natural rhythms of life, finding balance in surrender and cultivation.

In Cybele’s gaze, we see the fire of the mountain’s heart, the pulse of wild nature, and the endless roar of life itself. She invites us to feel our own wilderness, to rise in our sovereignty, and to embrace the harmony of who we truly are.

“She reigns!
She roars!
Through her, the limitless speaks.
Feel your own wilderness. And rise.”
